The next Chelmsford Planning Board Meeting will be held this Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in room 204 of the Town Offices on Billerica Rd. Notice that the meeting time is earlier than usual – 6:30pm. It is going to be a long, but very important one. WE NEED YOU THERE!
The link to the agenda (and others) is here. Two Public Hearing items on the agenda concern the Riverneck Road project.
First item of major concern: the truck access highway
One item on the agenda is a new Public Hearing for 300 Apollo Drive. This item is about the Davis Companies wanting to convert the emergency-only one-lane fire path behind Monmouth St into a two-way truck access road for the proposed large warehouse they want to build on Riverneck Road.
The image above shows a section of their gigantic proposed warehouse (in ORANGE), and the fire lane they want to convert into a 2-lane access highway for their trucks (in RED). This tiny fire lane begins a mere 60 to 80 feet from the edges of houses on Monmouth St, a quiet, dead-end street. This CANNOT happen! The Davis Companies believe this is “solving” the traffic problem that their warehouse will create, but don’t let them fool you. Only Class 8 trucks need to use this road. The other trucks and vehicles, upwards of 1000+ per day, can still use Riverneck Rd! All this plan is doing is spreading out the problem and affecting more people in a worse way.
As for now, the road will be private access only, but it’s only a matter of time before someone decides this should be a public road… Doesn’t Chelmsford have enough cut-through streets already?? Please come and let the Board know that this is unacceptable.
Second item of major concern: the quarter-million square-foot warehouse project, aka “The Riverneck Road Project”
Another item on the agenda is the continued Public Hearings on 191, 195, 199-201 Riverneck Rd, aka “The Riverneck Road Project.” If you remember from the last Planning Board meeting, comments from the Board and Public were limited to having to do with the access road. Hopefully at this meeting ALL conerns related to this entire project will be allowed. PLEASE come and let the Board know that the residents of Chelmsford do NOT want a low-quality, gigantic warehouse in our neighborhoods.
